Tourist Centre Unveiled PDF Print E-mail
Glen Lachart's much hyped multi million pound 'Centre For Tourism' has been branded "disappointing" by many villagers following its official unveiling on Thursday.

In development for almost four years, and with massive private and public investment, the 'Centre For Tourism' was intended to be a state of the art "jump off point" for visitors to the area, providing them with local information at their fingertips and a selection of cutting edge facilities designed to help them make the most of their visit.  The centre, it was planned, would also bring many benefits to the local economy, including the creation of several new jobs.

Instead questions are now being asked as to how project manager Councillor Cameron managed to spend the entire venture's budget on what is unmistakably a pair of portable toilets.

"It's all very well everyone asking where the money went," Cameron explained, "but they just don't see the bigger picture.  All those dinner meetings with the architects, the research trips to the Caribbean tourism centres, getting Angelina Jolie here to cut the ribbon - it all adds up, you know?!"

Added Cameron: "To be honest it's just lucky the portaloo people had a sale on or we'd only have been able to get the one."

At a public meeting later on Thursday evening many residents called for a full inquest into how the money was spent, a request which Cameron has promised to "give some thought to" as soon as he has finished the mammoth task of relocating to his new eight bedroomed house on the village outskirts.

Local business tycoon, Brian Dewood, who personally invested over 75% of the costs of the project was unable to attend the unveiling.  When later asked if he thought the 'Centre For Tourism' represented value for money, Mr Dewood replied "no".
